As much as I’m not a fan of history, this class was actually interesting and fun. It was a lot of work, reading logs and all, but I do feel as if I’m walking away with more than I walked in with. I think this class and the way it pushed me to think will help in school, work and eventually into my teaching career.

HISTORY AND LIFE

We’ve been taught since we were young that we learn history so that we don’t repeat it. With that being said, I think the idea of taking this class into the “real world” speaks for itself. We also leaned how to think historically and to think historically means to take things with a grain of salt. Everything is written with a bias and a perspective. When dealing with real life situations, we need to remember that stories are often one sided so to not judge someone by someone else’s opinion. So, think historically in a sense. Remember that people tell things the way they want you to believe it. And don’t judge character or situations by what you hear. Get both sides, make an educated decision and be true to what your thoughts are.

HISTORY AND WORK/SCHOOL

I think this class offered up the idea to challenge and explore what people are saying. Ask questions, do your research, question whats right and wrong and form your own opinion. This can be taken to other classes to ask professors questions and to really be skeptical about what you’re learning and what/ who you’re working for. And not skeptical in a bad way. That word has such a negative connotation to it. To be skeptical is to be wise and to be to be wise, is to ask questions and be curious.

HISTORY AND MY FUTURE AS A TEACHER

I said on the first page, I’ve always hated history. But maybe I’ve always hated it because it hasn’t been presented in the most interesting of ways. This class taught me to constantly be thinking. I enjoyed it more than other history classes I’ve taken in the past and I’m excited that I can hopefully take some of these things I learned and bring them into a classroom of my own one day and help the kids, like myself, who just don’t find it all that interesting. I am excited for my future and the more classes I take make me more and more excited because I’m gaining so many ideas to take back to my own classroom.
